May has arrived and our severe weather days are here! Storms are expected to develop this afternoon into the evening across Southern New York right through interior SNE, Southern VT and central and southern New Hampshire between 2-6 PM! The Storm Prediction Center has placed those areas in a slight risk (Level 2 out of 5 for severe storms. A 2% tornado risk exists. A LOW but non-zero risk. DAMAGING WINDS of 60 MPH and hail will be the highest threat with any severe storms that do develop across these areas! The severe weather threat diminishes after 9 PM but the bulk of storms should be between 2-6 PM. Strong wind shear and a sharp temperature gradient of 50s across NNE and the 70s, low 80s will form a boundary where these storms will pop up and develop. Dew points in the 60s will also help with the storm development today. Stay weather aware today and stay tuned for updates!
