Good afternoon. Quite the trend across SNE on Wednesday for wideapread rain rather than just a few scattered showers as it looked like a few days ago
An area of steady rain will be moving in from NY during the morning hours on Wednesday. Steady rain will continue to move into SNE through the day. The steadiest and heaviest rain does look to fall along and south of the MA pike tomorrow. Future radar shows rain moving in during the morning tomorrow but picking up in intensity along and south of the MA pike tomorrow afternoon through the late evening hours before tapering off by Thursday morning with some lingering showers on Thursday. Rain will be quite heavy along and south of the pike. Rainfall totals by early Thursday morning an inch and a half to 2" with some pockets of 3" to even 3.5" possible in Central and Western MA into far northern CT, northern RI. Much lower amounts expected across the north shore into NH and maine with amounts up to 0.25" to a bit over but significantly lower totals the more north you go into NH and ME. Steady rain moves out by Thursday morning with some lingering scattered showers on Thursday. Otherwise clouds will be a bit stubburn across SNE but bright sunshine expected across NH, ME, much of VT. Highs Wednesday only in the 60s across much of the region. Low-mid 70s Thursday. Upper 70s, low 80s Friday
LARGE WAVES AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS THURSDAY INTO THURSDAY NIGHT
Hurricane Erin is expected to pass well offshore of New England but large waves and dangerous rip currents are expected at the beaches, especially the south facing beaches. The peak of the large waves will be Thursday into Thursday night with wave heights 5-10 feet just offshore with some larger waves near block island. Wave height will decrease during the day on Friday but still choppy out there! Dangerous rip currents Wednesday through Friday! Stay out of the water this week! Wind gusts on Thursday will peak in the afternoon and especially Thursday night into Friday morning lingering into Friday afternoon with 30-40 MPH gusts along the south coast/south shore. 40-50 MPH gusts expected on Cape Cod/islands with some isolated higher gusts possible with those large waves and dangerous rip currents. Some power outages can not be ruled out. Around 30 MPH gusts on the north shore and decreasing as you go inland. We will keep you updated!
